ANGWIN, Calif. - The Red Hawks men's soccer team took to the field on Sunday, Oct. 16 against the Pioneers from Pacific Union in a match that saw the Red Hawks win 2-0.
The first half of the match saw both teams have chances but neither could capitalize on them. The Red Hawks had the best chances at scoring from great play from wings Luis Perez and Kerry Meehan as well as midfielder Michael Guzman.
After the teams played a scoreless first half, the Red Hawks came out looking to break the tie. Within the first 10 minutes of the half, Perez sent a ball across the frame of the goal and Tyler Goens put it into the roof of the net making it 1-0. Once the Red Hawks had the lead both teams traded chances but the Red Hawk defense held strong to keep the Pioneers out. Red Hawk goalkeeper Justin Webb was called on to make a few saves in the half and he did so comfortably. With six minutes remaining, Meehan blew past the defense and finished off the chance with great goal sealing the Red Hawk's victory. Webb had his third shutout, and Eric Jorgensen earned man of the match honors for his stout defending.
The win puts the Red Hawks record at 4-7 on the season and 2-3 in the Cal Pac. They will next be in action on Wednesday, Oct. 19 when they will host the Oaks from Menlo College. Earlier in the season the Red Hawks lost a close one to the Oaks 2-1.
