Simpson University Sports News
REDDING, Calif. - Luis Perez, Jordan Reed, Kerry Meehan, Eric Jorgensen and Michael Guzman all ended their Simpson careers in style on Tuesday, Nov. 8 as the Red Hawks men's soccer team completed their season with a 7-1 win over the Pioneers from Pacific Union College.
The Red Hawks got onto the scorer's sheet when Jorgensen bounced the ball off of a Pioneer defender making it 1-0 for the Red Hawks in the 12th minute. Once that goal went in, the flood gates opened. The Red Hawks scored three more times in the next five minutes. Tyler Goens scored off a pass from Meehan. Meehan added a goal of his own next off a great ball from Reed. Guzman made the game 4-0 off a penalty shot. In the 25th minute, Jordan Daigre scored off a shot assisted by Tim Medeiros. The Pioneers got on the scoreboard in the 35th minute when Randy Castanaza scored to make it a 5-1 match.
In the second half, the Red Hawks continued to dominate the game. Nate Butterfield scored on an outstanding cross from Goens. Medeiros capped off the scoring when he scored in the 68th minute, making the final score 7-1.
The win put the Red Hawks final season record at 6-11 and a record of 4-6 in the California Pacific Conference, which is good enough to see the Red Hawks finish tied with CSU Maritime and William Jessup third in the conference. Although the Red Hawks are losing some important players, the future looks bright for the 2010-2013 season.
