REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks men's soccer team took to the field on Saturday, Nov. 5 against the Warriors from William Jessup University. The Warriors were looking to avenge a loss earlier in the season when the Red Hawks defeated them on a last minute goal from Luis Perez to seal the game 1-0. This contest was also a thriller but the Warriors got their payback, winning the match 3-2.
The first half was a tightly contested by both teams. Red Hawk keeper Justin Webb made a couple of outstanding saves to keep the game level at 0-0.
The second half saw the Red Hawks allow three goals in the opening 10 minutes of the half including a penalty converted by Chris Hall in the 47th minute, a header from Jay Weislogel in the 50th minute, and a second goal by Hall 53rd minute. The Red Hawks were not discouraged by the turn of events and pressed the Warriors' defense for the rest of the half. They were finally able to get on the scoresheet in the 68th minute when senior Michael Guzman scored to give the Red Hawks a lifeline. The Red Hawks came close to scoring again when Jordan Daigre had his header hit the cross bar. Jordan Reed also came close when his shot was cleared off the line by a Warrior defender. With 10 minutes to go, Guzman collected the ball on the right wing and scored his second goal of the match to bring the Red Hawks within just a goal. For the Red Hawks, it was a story of too little too late and the Warriors held on for the 3-2 win.
The Red Hawks' record now falls to 5-10 overall and 3-6 in conference play. They finish off their season on Tuesday, Nov. 8 against the Pioneers from Pacific Union College in a match that will start at 3 p.m. in Redding.
