Simpson beats Bethany in both games of a doubleheader

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. - Simpson University's women's softball team played a two-game series against Bethany University on Tuesday, April 19 in Scotts Valley, Calif. The Lady Red Hawks won both games. They won game one 5-3 and game two 8-2.
In game one, Simpson took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. They added another three runs to their lead in the top of the third (5-0). Bethany scored its only two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Simpson won 5-2.
Sophomore Morgan Davis was the winning pitcher. She pitched 3.2 innings and allowed six hits and two runs. Sophomore Hayley Rodriguez also pitched. She pitched 3.1 innings. She only allowed two hits and no runs.
Davis and junior Nicki Feuerbach both went 1-for-3 with one run. Sophomore Nicole Hutchins went 1-for-4 with one run. Junior Brooke Downs went 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Freshman Chelsea Dunn went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
In game two, the Lady Red Hawks were up 3-0 in the top of the third when Bethany scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to cut Simpson's lead to one (3-2). Simpson scored five more runs in the fourth and sixth innings to take home the 8-2 victory.
Freshman Whitney McCain was the winning pitcher. She pitched three innings and gave up three hits and two runs. Junior Amanda Crocker pitched the last four innings of the game. She gave up four hits and no runs.
Davis went 1-for-4 with two runs. Junior Valerie Rodriguez went 1-for4 with two runs. Downs went 3-for-4 with one run and four RBI. Freshman McKenzie Burroughs went 1-for-2 with one run. Freshman Kristen Deal went 1-for-1 with one run. Sophomore Cali Avey also scored one run.
Simpson returns to action against conference opponent Holy Names University on Friday, April 21.
