Lady Red Hawks sweep conference doubleheader against Bethany

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University's women's softball team swept a conference doubleheader against Bethany University on Friday, April 8 in Redding, Calif. The Lady Red Hawks held the Lady Bruins scoreless for all 13 innings of play. They only allowed four total hits in the four game series. Simpson won game one 8-0 and game two 6-0.
In game one, Simpson got out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when sophomore Morgan Davis scored by stealing home. Junior Brooke Downs hit a two-run homer, which brought home sophomore Nicole Hutchins, to start off a five-run fourth inning. Junior Nicki Feuerbach scored when junior Corrine Alexander singled to right field. Freshman Alexis Angier reached home off freshman Chelsea Dunn's single to center. Alexander scored the last run of the inning when Davis singled to short. In the bottom of the fifth inning, junior Paige Gomez and Feuerbach scored on junior Valerie Rodriguez's single to center.
Sophomore Hayley Rodriguez was the winning pitcher. She pitched five innings and only gave up one hit. Davis went 2-for-3 with one run. Hutchins, Downs, and Alexander all went 1-for-3 with one run. Feuerbach went 2-for-3 with two runs. Gomez and Angier each scored a run.
In game two, the Lady Red Hawks continued to dominate. They got off to another early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Davis scored off Downs' single to left. Simpson increased their lead to 5-0 by having a four-run fifth inning. Dunn and Davis reached home when Downs singled to right field. Feuerbach hit a two-run homer to close out the inning. Downs scored on this homer. Freshman Kristen Deal reached home in the bottom of the sixth when Davis singled to left.
Davis was the winning pitcher for Simpson. She pitched all seven innings and only gave up three hits. She went 2-for-2 with two runs. Downs went 2-for-4 with one run. Feuerbach went 1-for-3 with one run and two RBI. Deal and Dunn added one run apiece to the final score.
The Lady Red Hawks return to action on Tuesday, April 12 against William Jessup University in Redding, Calif. The first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
