Eagles sweep Lady Red Hawks

LA MIRADA, Calif. - Simpson University's women's softball team continued their Southern California road trip with a double-header against Biola University on Tuesday, Feb. 15. Simpson lost both games in the series. The were shot out 2-0 in game one and lost 4-3 in game two.
Game one remained scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when Biola's Jillian Stom scored an unearned run. The Eagles scored again in the bottom of the fifth to bring the score to 8-0.
Sophomore Hayley Rodriguez was the losing pitcher for the Lady Red Hawks. She pitched six innings and gave up six hits and two runs. Biola's Sahylynn Weststeyn was the winning pitcher. She gave up eight hits and no runs. Simpson junior Brooke Downs went a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate.
In game two, Simpson scored three runs in the top of the second to take the early 3-0 lead. Biola scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to bring the score to 3-2. The Eagles gained the winning edge in the bottom of the fifth by scoring two more runs to five them the 4-3 victory.
Simpson sophomore Morgan Davis was the losing pitcher. She pitched six innings and gave up 12 hits and four runs. CeCe Luster was the winning pitcher. She allowed eight hits and three runs. Freshman Shaley Madruga, junior Nicki Feuerbach, and junior Corine Alexander all scored runs for the Lady Red Hawks.
Simpson returns to action in a double-header against Azusa Pacific University on Wednesday, Feb. 16. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
