Simpson splits conference opener with Holy Names

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University's women's softball team opened up California Pacific Conference play with a home doubleheader against Holy Names University. The Lady Red Hawks shut out Holy Names in game 2-0. In game two, Holy Names barely inched out Simpson 6-5.
Sophomore Hayley Rodriguez was the winning pitcher for the Lady Red Hawks in game one. She pitched all seven innings and gave up six hits and no runs. Sophomore Morgan Davis went 1-for-2 from the plate and scored one run. Junior Nikki Feuerbach went 3-for-3 from the plate and scored Simpson's other run.
Junior Amanda Crocker was the losing pitcher for Simpson in game two. She pitched 2.2 innings and gave up four hits and six runs. Davis and juniors Brooke Downs, Valarie Rodriguez, Corrine Alexander, and Paige Gomez all scored runs.
The Lady Red Hawks return to action on Friday, April 8 against Bethany University. The game will be held at the Simpson softball field. The first pitch is set to be thrown at 1 p.m.
