Lady Red Hawks defeat Menlo

ATHERTON, Calif. - Simpson University's women's softball team played a doubleheader against Cal Pac conference opponent Menlo College on Monday, April 18 in Atherton, Calif. The Lady Red Hawks won both games. They won 2-1 in game one and 7-3 in game two.
In game one, Simpson got on the board first by scoring a run in the top of the fourth to take the 1-0 lead. Menlo tied the game at one in the bottom of the sixth. The Lady Red Hawks regained and maintained the lead in the top of the seventh by scoring one run. This run gave Simpson the 2-1 victory.
Sophomore Hayley Rodriguez was the winning pitcher. She pitched all seven innings. She gave up eight hits and only one run. Sophomore Morgan Davis went 2-for-4 with one run. Junior Valerie Rodriguez scored one run, and juniors Corrine Alexander and Nikki Feuerbach had one RBI apiece.
In game two, Menlo took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Simpson tied the game at one in the top of the second, but the Lady Oaks scored in the bottom of the inning to take the 2-1 lead. Simpson had a huge sixth inning. The Lady Red Hawks scored six runs to take the 7-2 lead. Menlo scored a run to the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit. Simpson won 7-3.
Junior Amanda Crocker was the winning pitcher. She pitched seven innings and allowed eight hits and three runs. Davis went 1-for-4 with one run and a RBI. Freshman Chelsea Dunn went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Feuerbach and Rodriguez went 1-for-3 with a run. Alexander and freshman McKenzie Burroughs went 2-for-4 with one run.
The Lady Red Hawks return to action on Tuesday, April 19 against Bethany University in Scotts Valley, Calif.
