Simpson beats University of Great Falls

ROCKLIN, Calif. - Simpson University's women's softball team defeated the University of Great Falls in game two of the NAIA Qualifying Tournament in Rocklin, Calif.
Simpson scored seven runs on 15 hits. They jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first and added three more runs in the sixth to seal the win. Sophomore Haley Rodriguez picked up the win for the Red Hawks. She pitched seven innings and gave up six hits and no runs. She struck out 13 batters.
Simpson started the game by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first. Sophomores Morgan Davis and Nicole Hutchins scored when freshman Chelsea Dunn hit a single to center. Junior Brooke Downs scored on a University of Great Falls fielder's choice. Junior Nicki Feuerbach reached home on junior Corrine Alexander's single to left. The Lady Red Hawks added three more runs to their 4-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth. Davis hit a two-run homer to bring home herself and freshman Alexis Angier. Hutchins scored her second run of the game when Dunn singled to center. Simpson advanced to the winner's bracket of the tournament with this 7-0 win.
Simpson faces No. 1 William Jessup at 4:15 p.m. today. University of Great Falls will play an elimination game against Holy Names University at 2:45.
