Simpson shuts out Judson in NCCAA Tourney

TROUTVILLE, Va. - Simpson University's women's softball team faced Judson University in round one of the NCCAA National Tournament on Thursday, May 12 in Troutville, VA. The Lady Red Hawks shut out Judson 6-0.

Simpson got off to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Sophomore Nicole Hutchins scored the first run of the game when freshman Chelsea Dunn flied out. Junior Brooke Downs scored on junior Nicki Feuerbach's single to right field. The Lady Red Hawks added two more runs to their lead in the top of the fifth. Downs scored her second run of the game when Feuerbach flied out. Dunn scored on a Judson wild pitch. Simpson scored their final two runs in the top of the seventh. Feuerbach reached home on junior Corrine Alexander's single to right. Junior Valerie Rodriguez scored when junior Paige Gomez flied out to center field.

Sophomore Hayley Rodriguez was the winning pitcher for Simpson. She pitched a solid game. She only gave up one hit and struck out 12 batters.

The Lady Red Hawks return to action against Campbellsville University on Friday, May 13.
