Simpson edged out by North Greenville

TROUTVILLE, Va. - Simpson University's women's softball team battled against North Greenville University in round three of the NCCAA National Tournament on Friday, May 13. The Lady Red Hawks were defeated 2-1.

Simpson got off to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Junior Brooke Downs reached home when junior Valerie Rodriguez was walked. North Greensville took the 2-1 lead and eventual victory in the bottom of the fifth.

Sophomore Hayley Rodriguez was the losing pitcher for Simpson. She pitched six innings and gave up seven his and two runs.

Simpson returns to action against Central Baptist University at 10 a.m. The winner of this game will advance to the championship game against North Greensville. The loser will be eliminated from the tournament. Whichever team advances to the championship game will have to beat North Greensville for the national title.
