Lady Red Hawks struggle against Lubbock Christian

GULF SHORES, Ala. - Simpson University women's softball team faced Lubbock Christian University in round one of the NAIA National Tournament on Thursday, May 19 in Golf Shores, Ala. Lubbock Christian dominated the scoreboard and won the game 14-6.

Lubbock had a 6-0 lead before the Lady Red Hawks scored two runs in the top of the third. Junior Paige Gomez scored on sophomore Morgan Davis' double to shallow left-center. Freshman Shayley Madruga reached home on junior Brooke Downs' single to shallow center. Lubbock took a 10-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Simpson had a four-run fifth inning to bring the score to 10-6. Davis scored on Downs' single. Junior Valerie Rodriguez's single to right drove in freshman Chelsea Dunn. Junior Nicki Feuerbach scored on Gomez's single to short. Rodriguez reached home on junior Kristen Deal's single to second. Lubbock scored two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to cap off their 1406 victory.

Sophomore Hayley Rodriguez was the losing pitcher. She pitched 0.2 innings and gave up four hits and five runs. Junior Amanda Crocker pitched 4.2 innings and gave up 12 hits and nine runs.

The Lady Red Hawks play Reinhardt University at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 20.
