Simpson earns NAIA Tournament victory over Reinhardt

GULF SHORES, Ala. - Simpson University women's softball team Simpson University's women's softball team defeated Reinhardt University 2-1 in round two of the NAIA National Championship Tournament on Friday, May 20 in Golf Shores, Ala.
The Lady Red Hawks got off to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Sophomore Morgan Davis scored when freshman Chelsea Dunn singled up the middle. In the bottom of the third, Simpson took a 2-0 lead. Junior Brooke Downs scored on junior Nicki Feuerbach's single to shallow center. Reinhardt got on the board in the top of the fifth, but it wasn't enough to beat Simpson.
Freshman Whitney McCain was the winning pitcher the Lady Red Hawks. She pitched seven innings and struck out 10 batters. She allowed six hits and one run.
Simpson returns to tournament action against Simon Fraser on Saturday, May 21 at 7:30 a.m.
