REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks women's volleyball team was in action today for their first home game since August 22. They took on the Firestorm from Arizona Christian University. The Firestorm were able to avenge at loss they suffered earlier in the season at The Master's College tournament in three straight sets (25-16, 25-17, 25-17).
The Firestorm were able to get an outstanding performance from Bethany Beckman who had 12 kills and 13 digs on the night. Also contributing for the Firestorm was Meredith Oistad who had 20 assists in the match. The Red Hawks were never able to get any constancy going. They had 22 errors on the night. Every time that the Red Hawks had a surge they seemed to give it right back to the Firestorm with a mishandled ball. This was never more evident than when the Red Hawks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the set and then proceed to lose the next eight points and were never to able to recover.
On the positive side for the Red Hawks, Kirsten Duren had a great night keeping the Red Hawks chances alive with her play on the offensive end. Jamie Pickett had eight digs on the night in a strong performance in the losing effort.
Up next for the Red Hawks is another tough match on Tuesday, Sept. 13 in Chico, Calif., against the Chico State Wildcats at 7 p.m.
