Simpson wins first conference game of the season

ATHERTON, Calif. - Simpson University's women's volleyball team opened up their California Pacific Conference schedule on Friday, Sept. 23 against the Oaks from Menlo College. Simpson won the match in four sets (25-17, 25-22, 20-25, 25-22).
The Red Hawks took control early on in the first set jumping out to an early 8-4 lead. Simpson was able to hold its lead for the entire set backed by strong performances from Kirsten Duren and Jamie Pickett. Duren and Pickett were able to lead the team to a 25-17 first set win and the Red Hawks carried that momentum to a 25-22 second set victory. In the third set the Oaks pushed back with some good performances from Camille Miller who had 13 kills and Amanda Sutter who finished the night with 11 kills and 14 digs. Menlo won the third set 25-20. The final set looked to be going Menlo's way as they took an early 10-5 lead until the Red Hawks went on a 7-0 run to take the lead and they never looked back winning 25-22. Duren finished with 15 kills and 21 assist and Pickett finished with nine kills.
The win puts the Red Hawks season record at 5-15 and conference record at 1-0. They will next be in action on Friday, Sept. 30 when they will take on the Bobcats from UC Merced at home in a conference match up which will begin at 5 p.m.
