Simpson improves to 2-0 in conference play with win over Bobcats

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University's women's volleyball team took to the court on Friday, Sept. 30 when they hosted conference opponent UC Merced. They took the match in three sets (25-14, 25-17, 25-16) for their second win in a row.
The Red Hawks started the first set off jumping out to a 8-1 lead early on in the set with some great serving from Cashel White. The Red Hawks never looked back and cruised an easy 25-14 victory. In the second set, the Bobcats kept it close. The set was tied at 14 when Kirsten Duren led Simpson on 6-0 run making the score 20-14, which eventually led to the 25-17 set victory. In the third set, the Bobcats jumped out to a 4-1 lead before the Red Hawks found their form again and took command of the set and won 25-16.
White and Duren both finished the night with nine kills, and Kelly Tycksen had 17 assists in the winning effort for the Red Hawks. The win improves Simpson's overall record to 6-14 on the season and 2-0 in conference play. They will try and extend their win streak three games on October 1 at 5 p.m. when the Hawks from Holy Names come to Redding for another conference match-up.
