Simpson falls on day one of Oregon road trip

Simpson University Sports News

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - Simpson University's women's volleyball team was in action yet again today as their very busy preseason schedule continued with a game against the Oregon Tech Owls. The Red Hawks put up another hard fought performance with nothing to show for it dropping the match in three sets (21-25, 21-25, 24-26).

The Red Hawks received strong performances from junior Kirsten Duren who had 12 kills and 13 digs, senior Jackie Nixon who converted 11 kills with 14 digs and Jamie Pickett who was able to dig out 18 balls for the team on the day. However, it wasn't enough to stop the very balanced attack of the Owls who were led by Tessa Houck who had nine kills.

The Red Hawks now drop to 1-9 on the season although that record is a bit misleading of the volleyball that they have been playing because of the caliber of opponents that they have been facing in the early season. They continue their Oregon trip Tuesday, Aug. 30 where they will try and avenge a loss earlier in the season to the Northwest Christian Beacons in Eugene, Ore. The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
