Red Hawks go 1-1 on last day of Oregon road trip

NEWBURG, Ore. - The Red Hawks women's volleyball team were in action again today as they wrapped up their Oregon trip with a split of their two matches. Simpson lost a heartbreaking five set match against Mayville State early in the day (22-25, 24-26, 25-15, 25-16, 17-15). The Red Hawks finished the trip with another five setter against the Bruins from George Fox University which they won (25-19, 25-19,18-25, 12-25, 21-19).
In the second match the Red Hawks nearly squandered a two set lead before coming back to win a very tough five set. In the win, the Red Hawks had outstanding performances from Cashel White and Kirsten Duren who each had 11 kills and Duren added 17 assists to that mark. Also Kelly Tycksen had 21 assists and dug out 16 balls while Jamie Pickett also had a great match digging out 19 balls in the winning effort for the Red Hawks.
The Red Hawks now have a record of 4-11 on the season. They will get some much needed rest as their frantic preseason schedule slows down. They have a week off before taking the court again on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. against the Firestorm from Arizona Christian University. This is the second meeting between these two teams. Simpson won the first match when they faced each other in The Master's College Tournament in Santa Clarita, Calif.
