Simpson clinches playoff berth with win over Bethany

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. - Simpson University's women's basketball team traveled to Scotts Valley, Calif., and played the Bethany University Bruins on Friday, Feb.18. The Lady Red Hawks defeated Bethany 72-60.

The Lady Red Hawks found themselves down 34-31 at halftime. In the second half, Simpson outscore Bethany 41-26. The Lady Red Hawks' defense won the game for them. Their defensive pressure forced 22 turnovers and held the Bruins to 38 percent shooting from the field and 18 percent shooting from the three-point line.

Senior Kylie Shaw led Simpson with 19 points. Freshman Bekah Wofford followed with 15 points and nine rebounds. Senior Tiffany Johnson recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Charissa Murakami contributed with 12 points, and freshman Nichole Jones had 10 points and five steals.

The win enabled the Lady Red Hawks to clinch the fourth seed in the California Pacific Conference Tournament. Simpson will host CSU Maritime at home on Wednesday, Feb. 23.

Simpson returns to action Saturday, Feb. 19 against Menlo College in Atherton, Calif. Tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.
