Lady Red Hawks earn playoff win
Simpson University Sports News
REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University community came out dressed in white to support the Lady Red Hawks as they defeated CSU Maritime 78-55.
In the first half, Simpson's aggressive man-to-man defense allowed them to gain a twelve point lead at halftime (34-22). The Lady Red Hawks held Maritime to twenty-eight percent from the field and and twenty-five percent from the three point line.
In the second half, the Lady Red Hawks lead was cut down to nine due to back to back turnovers. After a thirty second time-out by head coach Derrick Pringle, Jr., Simpson picked up their defensive pressure and extended the lead to twenty.
CSU Maritime would have one more late run with six minutes left in the game, as they trimmed the lead to 13. The deficit was still too much to overcome and the Lady Red Hawks pulled away with the win.
Junior Charissa Murakami led all scorers with 20 points and 15 rebounds. It was her first double-double of the season. Seniors Tiffany Johnson and Kylie Shaw each had 12 points and Bekah Wofford had 14 points, 4 assist and 7 rebounds. Freshman Nichole Jones contributed with 10 points and 6 rebounds.
Joyce Koloa was the leading scorer for CSU Maritime with 12 points and Elizabeth Shiheiber followed with 11 points.
