Second half struggle costs Simpson conference win

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University Lady Red Hawks' basketball team faced the Holy Names Hawks on Saturday, Jan. 15 at the Heritage Student Life Center in Redding, Calif. Holy Names defeated Simpson 83-60.

Simpson and Holy Names battled hard in the first half. The Hawks were only up by one at halftime (36-35). Poor shooting plagued Simpson in the second half. The Lady Red Hawks only shot 23 percent from the field in the second half. Holy Names was able to capitalize on this shooting performance and earned the 83-60 victory.

Freshmen Nichole Jones led the Lady Red Hawks with 18 points and five rebounds. Freshmen Bekah Wofford and junior Kayla Rackley each had 12 points. Wofford also pulled down six rebounds.

Danika Potestio led the Hawks with 14 points and Renique Fitzpatrick followed with 11 points and seven rebounds. Lesley Vodicska had eight points and seven rebounds.

The Lady Red Hawks travel to Vallejo, Calif., to take on CSU Maritime on Thursday, Jan. 20. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
