Red hot Oaks defeat Simpson

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University's women's basketball team faced Menlo College in a Cal Pac Conference match-up on Thursday, Jan. 27. The Lady Red Hawks were defeated by the Oaks 95-78.

Both Simpson and Menlo had a strong offensive first half. Menlo shot 50 percent from the field, and Simpson shot 46 percent. The Lady Oaks were up 48-47 at halftime over the Lady Red Hawks.

In the second half, Simpson wasn't able to keep up with hot shooting and fast pace of the Oaks. Menlo outscored Simpson 47-31 and out rebounded the Lady Red Hawks 44-27. Simpson was able to cut the lead to 10, but it was too late as Menlo defeated Simpson 95-78.

Freshman Bekah Wofford led all scorers with 26 points. Freshman Nichole Jones followed with 19 points and six steals, and senior Kylie Shaw contributed 18 points.

Menlo was led by Monique Ayers Calvello with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Stephanie Truong had 18 points and six assist.

Simpson returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 29 against Pacific Union College in Angwin, Calif. Tip-off set for 6:30 p.m.
