Lady Red Hawks lose another close game to Northwest Christian

EUGENE, Ore. - Simpson University's women's basketball team was in action on Saturday, Nov. 19 against the Beacons from Northwest Christian University. These two teams played each other 10 days ago. The Red Hawks hosted the Beacons but last that game 72-69 in overtime. This game was very similar to their previous match up as it was close the entire way. The Beacons were again on the winning side, beating the Red 64-60.
The first half was a very even game, as both teams traded baskets for most of the way. The Beacons were plagued by poor shooting from the field going just 5-for-27 (18.5 percent) but were able to keep it close because the Red Hawks' turnover problems. Simpson turned the ball over 15 times in the first period. Free throw shooting also kept the Beacons close as they went 15-for-18 from the charity strip. The Red Hawks, on the other hand, only shot eight free throws and converted on just four of them. All that added up to the Red Hawks leading by 29-26 at halftime. Tempest Dawson was the Red Hawks' biggest scorer in the half with eight points. Ariassa Wilson added six points and three assists. Bekah Eppler also added five points, three assists and eight rebounds.
In the second half, the Beacons found their shooting touch seized control of the lead. Lindsey Shearer was the focal point of the Beacon offense as they extended their lead to seven in the early part of the half. The Red Hawks were not deterred, and they fought back but it was not enough as the Beacons held on for the 64-60 win.
Eppler finished with 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Red Hawks. Dawson added 12 points, and Kaity Hahn finished with 11 points in the losing effort for the Red Hawks. The Beacons were led by Shearer, who had 13 points in the win.
The loss puts the Red Hawks record at 2-5 on the season. They will return home and face the Cavaliers of Concordia University-Portland on Monday, Nov. 21. The game starts at 6 p.m.
