Simpson loses home opener in overtime

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University's women's basketball team opened up their home schedule on Wednesday, Nov. 9 against the Beacons from Northwest Christian University. The Lady Red Hawks narrowly lost in overtime by a score of 72-69.
The Red Hawks jumped out to an early lead in the first half because of the spark Ariassa Wilson provided off the bench. However, the Beacons kept the game close because of the great play of Lindsey Shearer. The Red Hawks led by as many as 13 points, but the Beacons did not let that stand for long as Shearer hit some big shots.
In the second half, the teams traded baskets most of the way as neither team could take 14 throughout the course of the game. The Red Hawks had a chance at the end of overtime to send the game into double overtime. Unfortunately, Charissa Murakami's three-point effort came up just short and the Red Hawks fell by those 3 points 69-72.
Wilson finished the night with 12 points, seven assists, and six rebounds for the Red Hawks. Also having good nights for the Red Hawks were Bekah Eppler who had 13 points and eight rebounds and Brook Blaisdell who had 10 points and five rebounds. Shearer finished the night for the Beacons just short of a triple-double. She had 16 points, nine rebounds and nine assists. Katie Collins had 14 points and three rebounds for Northwest Christian.
The loss puts the Red Hawks' record at 0-3 on the season. They hope to get on the winning track on Saturday, Nov. 12 when they host Northwest University in a game that tips off at 3 p.m.
