12.20.2011Red Hawks women's basketball team wrapped up their 2011 play on Tuesday, Dec. 20 against the Hawks from San Diego Christian College. The Red Hawks were hoping to end the calendar year on a high note but it wasn't to be. They dropped a hard fought contest 80-69.
The first half started with both teams trading baskets for the first eight minutes of the game with the teams tied at 12 with just over 12 minuets to play in the half. The Hawks’ Jasmin Thomas finished the half with 11 points, and the Hawks took a seven point lead into the halftime break. The Red Hawks had to count themselves a bit lucky that the San Diego Christian lead wasn't bigger because of the 18 turnovers that they committed in the first half. Helping out Thomas in the half was Hannah Miller who had seven points for the Hawks. Bekah Eppler, Ariassa Wilson, and Nichole Jones each had six points in the half for Simpson.
The second half was hard fought as well. San Diego Christian was able to extend their lead to as many as 15 points. They were led by Brittany Daniel, who scored 16 points in the second half. Wilson then started to feel it offensively for the Red Hawks as they tried to mount a comeback. The Red Hawks could only manage to put a little dent into the San Diego Christian lead and ended up losing 80-69.
Wilson led all scorers on the night with 24 points. Eppler finished with 16 points and six rebounds while Jones was able to secure a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
