Lady Red Hawks defeat Division III UC Santa Cruz

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Simpson University's women's basketball team traveled to Santa Cruz, Calif., to take on the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs on Thursday, Feb. 3. The Lady Red Hawks defeated the Division III school 81-70.
The Lady Red Hawks had a 37-33 lead at halftime. Simpson shot 46 percent from the field and held the Banana Slugs to 38 percent from the field and 23 percent from the three-point line.
In the second half, the sharp shooting of junior guard Kayla Rackley gave Simpson an early eight point lead. Rackley, who was in foul trouble in the first half, scored all of her 10 points in the second half. Senior Tiffany Johnson scored nine of her 13 points in the second half and helped lead Simpson to an 81-70 victory.
Freshman Bekah Wofford led all scorers with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Wofford was 9-for-14 from the field and was 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Freshman Nichole Jones followed with 16 points, and senior Kylie Shaw contributed 10 points and five steals.
Simpson returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 5 against conference rival William Jessup University at home. The Warriors won the last game between these two teams. Tip-off set for 2 p.m.
