SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The Red Hawks women's basketball team took the court in their final game of the Griffins Classic on Saturday when they took on the host Griffins of Westminster College. It would not turn out the way the Red Hawks envisioned concluding the Classic as they lost, 75-43.

The Griffins began in style with a 16-0 run to start the game. The run was led by Nicole Yazzie and Shelby Ellsworth. The Red Hawks would try and fight their way back into it down 25-5 when they went on a 7-0 run, but the Griffins quickly stopped the run going on a 9-1 run of their own. The Red Hawks turned the ball over 10 times in the half and they only converted on 22% of their shots in the half. Yazzie led the Griffins in scoring in the half with 13 points including three for three from downtown. Ellsworth added eight for the Griffins. The Red Hawks had 14 of their 18 points come from Charissa Murakami in the half as the Red Hawks would trail 36-18 at the break.

At the start of the second half the Red Hawks were dealt another blow as their leading scorer on the season Bekah Eppler picked up two quick fouls giving her four fouls with over 17 minutes to play in the game. The Griffins continued to pour it on and the Red Hawks would never find a foothold in the game and were handed a 32 point loss, 75-43.

Yazzie would lead all scorers with 21 points. Ellsworth finished the night with 10 points and Dana Bates would come up big with a double-double scoring 14 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Murakami would lead the Red Hawk offensively with 17 points. Nichole Jones was the next highest scorer for the Red Hawks adding six points along with her five rebounds.

The loss drops the Red Hawks record to 4-9 on the season. Their next game will be another road game when they will travel to Monterey Bay to take on Cal State Monterey Bay on December 10th, which will tip-off at 5:30 pm.
