Simpson shut out by Royals at home

REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks women's soccer team was took to the field today in a match against a tough opponent in the Royals from Hope International University. Despite a decent performance from the Red Hawks, they still found themselves on the wrong side of a 3-0 scoreline.
The Red Hawks started off the game a bit slow conceding a goal just 10 minutes into the match junior forward Kristen Enriquez was able to put the ball past Red Hawks goalie Jessica Rickli. After that, the Red Hawks were able to settle down and play some good soccer but they were not able to capitalize and went into the half down 1-0.
As the second half began, the Red Hawks came close to equalizing the score when sophomore Morghan Pomeroy was fouled just outside the area. Freshman winger Bethany Dahl took the ensuing free kick which was pushed into the crossbar by Royals goalkeeper Savannah Wood. The ball then fell to Red Hawk captain Morgan DeFazio whose shot struck the post. The scored their second goal when Enriquez again found the back of the net in the 64th minute. The Red Hawks continued to play well but just could not connect in their attacking third and failed to find the back of the net. Then with five minutes remaining, the Royals made sure of the result when midfielder Jordan Benson made it 3-0 victory for Hope.
With the loss, Simpson falls to 1-3 on the season. Up next for the Red Hawks is a road game in Klamath Falls, Ore., at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14 against Oregon Tech.
