Lady Red Hawks lose conference opener to Menlo

ATHERTON, Calif. - The Simpson University Red Hawks women's soccer team was in action on Saturday, Sept. 24 when they kicked off their California Pacific Conference play against the Menlo College Oaks in Atherton, Calif. The Red Hawks dropped the hard fought contest 2-0.
The first half had plenty of chances for both sides forcing great performances from both keepers. Arielle Peraza from the Oaks had four saves, and Jessica Rickli had six saves for the Red Hawks. However, in the 32nd minute, the Oaks broke the deadlock when Kristina Roome set up Steffany Dudley whose great shot got past Rickli. The score at halftime was 1-0 in favor of the Oaks.
The second half again had scoring chances for both teams but again it was Peraza who kept the Red Hawks at bay. In the 65th minute, Dudley again was able to break free from the Red Hawk defense and score her second goal of the game bring the score to 2-0. This goal was assisted from Elizabeth Castaneda. The Red Hawk had great performances from many of their players. The most notable performances came from Rickli and Kaylee Lommori who came off the bench to share the women-of-the-match award.
The loss drops the Red Hawks record to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play. They will next be in action on Wednesday, Oct. 5 when they will host the Hawks from Holy Names University. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
