REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks women's soccer team was in action on Wednesday taking on the Oaks from Menlo College. They lost the match 4-1. It was also senior day for the Lady's as the four seniors (Megan Furze, Morgan DeFazio, Danae Hicks and Valerie Cormack) played in their last home game for the Red Hawks.
The Oaks jumped out to an early lead. Four minutes into the match Mallory Todd put Menlo in the lead with a goal off an Elanna Erceo cross. The Red Hawks were quick to respond as Nicole Goens leveled things in the ninth minute. Both teams shared chances for the rest of the half but neither team could finish off any of the chances and went into the half tied at one.
The second half was also hard fought again with both teams having chances to take the lead. It wasn't until the 71st minute when Oaks midfielder Steffany Dudley put the Oaks ahead on a penalty kick. Five minutes later, the Oaks added another goal from Elaini Vargas. Then in the 88th minute Dudley scored her second goal insuring the 4-1 win for the Oaks. The Red Hawks had outstanding performances from Natalie Goens, Hicks and Furze.
The loss drops the Red Hawks record to 1-8 overall and 0-4 in the Cal Pac. Up next for the Red Hawks is Holy Names University on October 29 in Oakland, Calif., at 1 p.m.
