Simpson falls to OIT in final preseason game
Simpson University Sports News
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - Simpson University's women's soccer team took the field on Wednesday, Sept. 14 in their final preseason match of the year. They took on the Owls from Oregon Tech at Steen Sports Park in Klamath Falls, Ore. The Red Hawks lost 4-1 in another disappointing result this season.
The Owls jumped out to an early lead as just five minutes into the match. They took the 1-0 lead when Brooke Cole finished off a cross from Meghan Drost. The Red Hawks just couldn't find the rhythm that they know that they can play with, and the Owls took advantage of that fact. They added another goal in the 30th minute when Drost scored off of a pass from Alysa Castle. The teams took a 2-0 score into the half.
As the second half began, the Red Hawks were given hope when in the 56th minute Natalie Goens sent a ball into her twin sister Nicole Goens who finished it off making the score 2-1. However, Simpson just couldn't cope with the Owls who out-shot the Red Hawks 29 to 8 on the night. OIT was able to add two more goals to their total before the game was over. In the 61st minute, Melanie Johnson scored and in the 85th minute when Hayley Smith scored. Rebekah Nisbet recorded the assist on both goals. In the loss, Red Hawk goalkeeper Natasha Kamps had 10 saves on the night.
The Red Hawks will have a 10-day layoff before they start their conference schedule on Saturday, Sept. 24 against the Menlo College Oaks in Atherton, Calif. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
