Simpson loses season finale to conference rivals
Simpson University Sports News
ROCKLIN, Calif. - It was another rough outing for the Red Hawks women's soccer team when traveled to take on the Warriors form William Jessup University in their final game of the season on Saturday, Nov. 5. The Red Hawks suffered another disappointing loss by a score of 4-0.
The first half saw both teams unable to do much offensively. The Warriors controlled the ball offensively for most of the half. The Red Hawks struggled greatly in the half because they were fighting against the wind the entire way. Red Hawk goalkeeper Jessica Rickli had a solid half and made a few outstanding saves to keep the Warriors from scoring.
In the second half, the Warriors were able to break the deadlock in the 54th minute when Jacque Cassell scored off a penalty shot to make it 1-0. After that, it seemed to unravel for the Red Hawks. Five minutes later, Kim Randall scored off a pass from Cassell. The Warriors' third goal came in the 65th minute when Alyssa Wimmer scored on a shot assisted by Emily Fernandez. Stephanie Long scored in the 72nd minute to make it 4-0 for William Jessup.
The loss finishes off a disappointing season for the Red Hawks. They finished the season winless in the Cal Pac with a record of 0-6 and 1-10 overall. They will look to improve on this record next season, but they will have to find a way to cope without the services of Morgan DeFazio who has been a force defensively for the Red Hawks and Megan Furze who has been a stabilizing force in the midfield for the team. Also leaving the team through graduation will be Valerie Cormack whose hard work ethic will be missed and Danae Hicks whose veteran leadership will be hard to replace in the new season.
