Simpson cross country finishes first at PUC Invite

REDDING, Calif. - The men and women's cross country teams were in action on Friday, Oct. 5, when they took part in the Pacific Union Invite. Both team turned in impressive performances taking first place in both the men and women's races.
The Red Hawks men's team placed first with 17 points. Individually, Tony Moore set the pace for all runners with a time of 29:16. In fact, the Red Hawks had runners finish in the top four spots. Thomas McAtee finished in second with a time of 29:57, Ryan Guerrero finished in third with a time of 30:55, and Brad Arkens finished in forth with a time of 31:07. Nate Marshall placed seventh with a time of 31:44, and two other Red Hawks finished in the top 15. Matt Eyman finished in 12th place with a time of 33:35, and Kevin Martin placed 14th with a time of 35:05.
Simpson’s women’s cross country team finished in first place with a score of 19 points. Rebekah Studebaker set the pace for all runners, finishing in first place with a time of 23:05. Fellow Red Hawk Rebekah Groen finished just one second off the pace in second place with a time of 23:06. Red Hawk Jaclyn VanSchooten rounded out the top three with a time of 23:16. Two more Red Hawks found themselves inside the top 10, as Summer Holloway finished in sixth with a time of 24:33, and Jovita Avila finished in seventh with a time of 24:34. The final two Red Hawks were also in the top 15, as Holly Pebles placed 11th with a time of 25:51, and Michaela Justice finished with a time of 26:00.
The Red Hawks will next be in action on Saturday, Oct. 13, when the travel to take part in the Bronco Invitational in Santa Clara, Calif.
