Red Hawks split double-header with Corban

REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks' men's baseball team hosted the Warriors from Corban College on Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader with the teams splitting the doubleheader. Game one went to the Warriors 12-9 before the Red Hawks rebounded to take game two 10-8.
Rick Hogan took the mound for the Red Hawks in game one taking on Justin White for the Warriors. The Red Hawks struck first in the 1st inning when Garrett Barnett hit a 2-run home run to give the Red Hawks a 2-0 lead. They would double their lead in the 2nd inning when Angel Marti singled to score Chad Alden and Josh Corson making it 4-0 after two innings. The Red Hawks would keep it up in the 3rd adding two more when Mitch Garcia would double to score Daveron Ross and Garcia would score on a Chad Alden RBI single. The Warriors would add 6 of their own in the 4th inning to tie it up 6-6. Ross would have a RBI single of his own in the bottom of the 4th retaking the lead. They would extend their lead in the bottom of the 6th when Corson scored on a wild pitch and Ross' sacrifice fly scored Marti to make it 9-6. However, the Warriors scored four in the 7th and two in th 9th to take the lead 12-9 and would hold on to that for the victory. Joshua Yachinich is hit with the loss for the Red Hawks surrendering 5 runs (3 earned) on 3 hits in 2.1 innings of relief. Caleb Virtue comes in to earn the win for the Warriors going 2.2 innings allowing just 1 run on 3 hits. Ross was 4-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored in the game. Chad Alden added 3 hits going 3-4 with a RBI while Marti and Barnett both added 2 RBI each in the loss.
Game two saw Robert Nadalsky take the mound for the Red Hawks against the Warrior starter Jacob Kopra. The Warriors were the first on the board in this one as they scored 7 times to open up a big lead in the 3rd inning. The Red Hawks would then begin to chip away at the lead in the bottom half of the 3rd scoring twice when Marti scored on a Barnett triple, and Barnett would score on a error from the Warrior defense. The Warriors would add another in the 5th when they scored one to make it 8-2. Then the Red Hawks scored three times in the bottom of the 5th, highlighted by a Garcia solo home run, and three times in the bottom of the 6th which featured an Josh Corson 2-run home run tying the game up at 8 runs a piece after 6 innings. The Red Hawks would score the go ahead runs in the 7th inning when Chad Alden tripled and then scored on Chuck Matthey's RBI double, and then Matthey would score on a Graig Lonergan RBI single. Nick Mikkelson would earn the win as he pitched 4.1 innings of relief allowing 4 runs on 3 hits. Kopra get the loss for the Warriors allowing 8 runs on 7 hits in 6 innings of work. Daniel Chavez earns a save pitching 2 innings of relief with out yielding a hit. Barnett was 2-3 with 3 RBI and a run scored with Corson going 1-4 scoring twice and batting in 2 runs.
The Red Hawks are now 19-29 on the season and 4-21 in conference play. They will finish off their season tomorrow on senior day for the Red Hawks when they will host the Warriors again in a doubleheader beginning at 11 am at Tiger Field.
