Red Hawks lose another conference game

REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks' men's baseball team started a four game series on Friday, March 9, against the Warriors from Lewis-Clark State at Tiger Field in Redding. The Red Hawks lost the opening game of the series 7-3.
Simpson’s Scott McKeen pitched against the Warriors’ Austin Pentecost. The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, when third baseman Trent Bridges’ single drove home Jordan Payne. The Warriors scored again in the fifth inning. Their three-run inning was highlighted by the play of first basemen Alfonso Casillas, who had a two RBI double to right field. The Warriors kept the pressure on the Red Hawks, as the added two more in the sixth inning, including a home run from catcher Aaron DeGuire. In the bottom of the sixth, the Red Hawks were able to finally get their first hit of the game. Garrett Barnett singled, scoring Angel Marti to make the score 6-1. The Red Hawks added another run in the eighth inning, when Phillip Ramos singled to score Kris Warner. The final inning saw both teams score one run, and the Warriors comfortably won 7-3.
McKeen earned the loss for the Red Hawks, allowing six runs on nine hits in six innings of work. Pentecost earned the win, allowing just one run and one hit over seven innings of work striking out six batters. Payne was 3-for-4 for the Warriors with an RBI and scored two runs, while DeGuire was 2-for-5 with a home run, an RBI and a run. For Simpson, Barnett went 1-for-3 with an RBI, Graig Lonergan went 1-for-4 with an RBI, and Ramos went 1-for-1 with an RBI.
The Red Hawks now fall below .500 with the loss. Their record now stands at 10-11. They will try and get back above the .500 mark on Saturday, March 10, as the series against the Warriors continues with a doubleheader starting a noon.
