Simpson finishes series against Willamette with a win

REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks' men's baseball team was in action on Sunday, Feb. 12, to finish off a four-game series against the Bearcats from Willamette. The Red Hawks scored early and often in this one game and doubled up the Bearcats 14-7.
Matthew Hart got the start for the Red Hawks, and Tyler Olson started for Willamette.
The Red Hawks opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second when they scored for four runs. Chuck Matthey's RBI single scored Daveron Ross for the Red Hawks, who would not relinquish the lead after that point.
Willamette University scored three runs in the fourth to put them down just one. The Red Hawks responded with four in the sixth and five in the eighth to put the game out of reach.
Kris Warner led the Red Hawks, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. Angel Marti reached base three times and scored three runs. Garrett Barnett also had a good day, going 3-for-5 with an RBI and scoring twice. Matthew Alton added two more RBI to his already impressive numbers and went 1-for-4.
Hart got the win. He went six innings and allowed just three earned runs. Olson was hit with the loss for the Bearcats. He pitched five innings and allowed six runs on five hits.
The Red Hawks improve their record to 7-5 on the season. They will host the T-Birds on Thursday, Feb. 16, at Tiger Field in Redding with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
