Men's Basketball Notes: SU faces Chico State on December 14

THIS WEEK: The Simpson University men's basketball team (3-10) travels to face NCAA Division II Chico State University (3-3) in a North State battle on Friday, Dec. 14. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
LAST WEEK: The Red Hawks played a tough game against No.16 Southern Oregon University at home on Saturday, Dec. 8, losing 87-79. Sophomore forward Ian Corella led the Red Hawks in scoring with 17 points and five rebounds. Freshmen guard Dalton Thacker and sophomore guard Jonnie Washburn each scored 15 points.
ABOUT CHICO STATE: Chico State enters the contest with a 3-3 record. The Wildcats lost to conference opponent Cal State Stanislaus, 68-66. Sean Park led the Wildcats in scoring with 17 points and six rebounds. Rashad Paker followed with 13 points, and Jason Concard contributed 11 points and nine rebounds. On the season, the Wildcats are averaging 63 points per game and allowing 56.8 points per game. They are shooting 34 percent from the three-point line and 40 percent from the field. Chico State averages 33.5 rebounds per game and 7.3 steals per game. Damario Sims and Sean Park lead the team in scoring with 8.7 points per game.
THE NUMBERS: The Red Hawks rank 21st in the nation in 3-pointers made (93). They are also ranked 28th in the nation in total offensive rebounds (479) and 31st in total assists (180). Junior Guy Varsek is ranked 30th in total scoring (207) and 32nd in total rebounds (98).
LOOKING AHEAD: Simpson returns home to host NCAA Division III Pacific University (OR) at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 17. They then travel Klamath Falls, Ore., to take on Oregon Tech on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
