Simpson struggles against Division II Chico State

CHICO, Calif. - The Simpson University men's basketball team's difficult preseason continued on Friday, Dec. 14, when they traveled to take on the Wildcats from Chico State University at Acker Gymnasium. The Wildcats scored 27 points off of turnovers and coasted to a 28-point victory, 80-52.

The Wildcats opened the game on a 27-6 run with less than 10 minutes gone. The Red Hawks only converted seven of their 25 shots from the field in the first half, which allowed the Wildcats to continue to open up their lead to 24 points at the break (42-18). The Wildcats bench was also a factor in the half, as they scored 22 points. Amir Carraway led the Wildcats in the half with nine points and four rebounds; he also went 5-of-5 from the charity stripe.

In the second half, the Wildcats extended their lead to as many as 32 with 11:50 remaining in the half. They eventually won 80-52.

James Staniland led all scorers with 14 points; Carraway added 12 in the win for the Wildcats.

Jonnie Washburn and Ian Corella each had nine points for the Red Hawks.

The Red Hawks play their final home game of 2012 on Monday, Dec. 17, when they host the Boxers from Pacific University at 7 p.m.
