Simpson loses heartbreaker to Holy Names

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University men's basketball team were in action on Thursday, Feb. 9, against Holy Names University. The Red Hawks lost a 79-73 heartbreaker at the hands of the Hawks.

The first half of the game was tightly contested with the lead changing hands multiple times and neither team really able to dictate the pace of the game. However, in the second half the Red Hawks had some big performances by Ian Corella and Jordan Collins down low enabling the Red Hawks to take a lead. Bryan Castillo and Nick Dalby were able to help stretch that out to 10 points with 5:42 to play in the game. Then Patrick Turner for Holy Names caught fire. He hit some huge threes to bring the Hawks all the way back and into the lead. After that, the Red Hawks just couldn't get back into the game they eventually lost by six (79-73).

Corella led the Red Hawks with 18 points, while Castillo and Dalby both added 16 in the losing effort. Turner led the Hawks with 17 points, and Karlos Grier added 16.

The loss puts the Red Hawks’ record at 3-20 and 2-7 in the Cal Pac. They will be in action on Saturday, Feb. 11, when they host the Warriors from William Jessup University at 7:30 p.m.
