Red Hawks lose to Maritime in semi-finals

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University men's basketball team took on No. 1 CSU Maritime in Cal Pac tournament semi-finals on Saturday, Feb. 25. The Red Hawks' season ended with a 70-60 Maritime victory.

The Keelhaulers opened up their 10-point lead in the first half, taking a 34-24 lead into the halftime break. The Red Hawks were led in the half by Travis Derochowski, who has eight points and nine rebounds. Red Hawk guard Stephon Thomas also had a good half with eight points and five rebounds. Howie Manzo had 10 points to lead the Keelhaulers in the half.

The Red Hawks just couldn't find a way back, as they only matched the Keelhaulers score in the second half and would lose 70-60. Derochowski finished his short Simpson career with a double-double scoring 12 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Thomas also had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Calvin Smith added 10 points and eight rebounds. The Keelhaulers were led by Josh Greenwell, who scored 16 points and snagged eight rebounds.

The win sends the Keelhaulers into the championship of the Cal Pac tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 28, against the Holy Names Hawks.
