Vargas named NAIA scholar-athlete

REDDING, Calif. - The NAIA honored four California Pacific Conference student-athletes by placing them on the 2012 Daktronics-NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Scholar-Athletes List. This year, the scholar-athletes list from the conference features a California Pacific Conference First Team honoree.
Pacific Union had two student-athletes make the list. Seniors Josh Jewett, a native of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Michael Giang, a native of Yucaipa, Calif., made the list. Jewett was a California Pacific Conference First Team honoree this season. Both Jewett and Giang make the scholar- athletes list for the second consecutive year. Simpson University had one honoree on the list. Senior Jordan Vargas, a native of Victorville, Calif., helped the Red Hawks to a 7-21 record overall and a 5-7 record in conference play. Menlo College also had a honoree in senior Alexander Engel. The Los Osos, Calif., native helped the Oaks to a 7-22 record overall and a 5-7 record in conference play.
To make the national list, the student-athletes must be a junior or above in academic standing and have a minimum GPA of 3.5, on a 4.0 scale, at the time of nomination at the nominating institution.
