Red Hawks finish third in NAIA regional tournament

SEASIDE, Calif. - The Red Hawk men's golf team competed in the NAIA regional tournament on May 7-8. The tournament included team from the Cal Pac, GSAC, and Cascade conferences. The 54-hole event was held at the Black Horse Golf Course in Seaside, Calif., in excellent weather conditions.

The Red Hawks finished third out of 12 schools in the team competition with a combined score of 906. The Sea Loins from Point Loma Nazarene University finished in first place with a score of 879, and the Mustangs from the Master’s College finished in second place.

Red Hawk standout senior Mitch Card won the individual portion of the tournament with a one stroke victory, even par score for the tournament. The second place finisher was Ryan Ellerbrock +1 (217) from Point Loma. Jesse Heinly from Concordia and Zane Keith from Point Loma tied for third; both were +2 (218). As for the rest of the Red Hawks, Jake West finished tied for sixth with a score of +6 (222), Nick Maddalena finished with a score of +15 (231), and Marcus Mezzano finished with a score of +26 (242).

The win earns Card a trip to the 2012 NAIA Men's Golf National Championships. The 61st annual event will take place at Creekside Golf Club in Salem, Ore., on May 22-25.
