Red Hawks tie with Marymount

REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks men’s soccer team was in action on Sunday, Sept. 30, against the Mariners from Marymount College. It was a hard fought match, which resulted in a thrilling 2-2 draw.
The Red Hawks and Mariners both had chances in the first half, but neither team was able to score. They went into the break with a 0-0 scoreline.
The second half started with the Mariners finally getting the goal they were looking for in the 51st minute, when Viktor Ahlgren scored on an assist from Scott Smith to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead. Marymount found the back of the net again, when Ahlgren and Smith connected again to give the Mariners a commanding 2-0 lead. The Red Hawks fought back though and got their first goal in the 84th minute, when Angel Garcia scored on assist by Cody Garrison to bring the score to 2-1. The Red tied the game up, when Jordan Ferrier scored on a free kick that went sailing past Mariners’ goalkeeper Cristos Voglis to send the match into overtime. In the overtime period, the Red Hawks would fought off some good attacking with some excellent goalkeeping from Red Hawk junior Justin Webb, who finished the day with 11 saves. The game remained tied throughout the overtime period, and the final score remained 2-2.
The Red Hawks will start their Cal Pac North conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 3, with a trip to Vallejo, Calif., to take on the Keelhaulers from CSU Maritime at 6 p.m.
