Red Hawks battle hard against Northwest Christian

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - The Red Hawks men’s soccer team was in action on Saturday, Sept.1, when they traveled to take on the Beacons from Northwest Christian University. The game was a high scoring affair with both teams frequently finding the back of the net. Unfortunately for the Red Hawks, the Beacons came away with the 4-3 victory.
The Red Hawks came out strong and put together some good attacking plays, but they couldn't get the breakthrough they were looking for. The Beacons took advantage on the counter attack and scored three times in a 14 minute span, starting with Ryan Herriage who scored in the 13th minute. Herriage scored again in the 21st minute before Josh Bramlett made it 3-0 in the 27th minute. The Red Hawks continued to attack and they finally scored in the 44th minute, when Angel Garcia scored on a Tyler Goens’ assist. The teams went into halftime with the score 3-1.
The Red Hawks scored quickly in the second half, when Jordan Ferrier's pass found Jonathan Lowdermilk who headed it in to make it 3-2. In the 70th minute, Nick Peloquin scored the fourth goal for the Beacons. Then with the final kick of the game, Marvin Delgado scored a spectacular free kick to make the score 4-3.
The Red Hawks fall to 0-2 on the season. They will host the Owls from Oregon Tech in their home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. The game is being held at Redding Soccer Park.
