REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks men’s soccer team took on the Warriors from William Jessup University on Saturday, Oct. 6. Senior Tyler Goens’ two second half goals helped the Red Hawks seal their 2-1 come-from-behind victory.
The Warriors got on the scorers’ sheet just 10 minutes into the game, when a defensive breakdown saw Dylan Valentine get the ball past Red Hawk keeper Justin Webb to make it 1-0 Warriors. The teams played each other evenly for the rest of the half, and they took the 1-0 scoreline into the break.
Shortly after the start of the second half, the Red Hawks tied the game when Red Hawk defender Jon Dinius made a surging run. His shot hit off the crossbar, but Goens was right there to tap in the rebound to make it 1-1. The Red Hawks continued to press the Warriors offensively and with just under eight minutes to play Goens headed home the game winning shot off a wonderful cross from captain Kyle Ochoa to seal the victory for the Red Hawks.
The Red Hawks will look to continue this momentum in their next match on Sunday, Oct. 14, in Angwin, Calif., against the Pioneers from Pacific Union College.
