Simpson dominates Holy Names

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University women's softball team was in action on Tuesday, April 3, when the hosted the Hawks from Holy Names University. It was a good day, as the Red Hawks won the game 9-1 and took the three-game series two games to one.
Hayley Rodriguez was on the mound for the Red Hawks, taking on Holy Names’ Nicole Ochoa. Red Hawk second baseman Brooke Quaife got the scoring started for the Red Hawks, when she hit a solo home run in the top of the first. In the second inning, Valerie Rodriguez's sac bunt scored Nicki Feuerbach to make the Red Hawks’ lead 2-0. Feuerbach had an RBI of her own in the third inning before Valerie Rodriguez was at it again with an RBI double which would score Feuerbach, making the score 4-0. Holy Names showed signs of life in the fourth, when they scored one run. Neither team would score after that until the bottom of the sixth inning, when the Red Hawks scored five runs on two home runs. The first was a two-run shot from Shayley Madruga and the second was a three-run homer from Quaife to make it 9-1, which would be the final score. Hayley Rodriguez was the winning pitcher, giving up just the one run on three hits in six innings. Ochoa was hit with the loss, giving up two runs on four hits in one inning of work. Quaife was 3-for-4 with four RBI and two home runs, while Madruga was 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBI.
The Red Hawks’ record is now 15-20 on the season and 2-1 in the Cal Pac. They will travel to Rocklin this weekend to play a three-game series against the Warriors from William Jessup, starting with the first game on Friday, April 6, at 1 p.m.
