Simpson shuts out Menlo

SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The Simpson University women's softball team kicked off a three-game series against Menlo College on Monday, April 9. Simpson shut out Menlo 7-0.
Hayley Rodriguez took the ball for the Red Hawks, taking on Oaks’ starter Jessica Cobb. The Red Hawks scored three runs in the first inning. Morgan Davis tripled to lead off the inning and then scored on a Brooke Quaife single. Aleisha Brown scored later in the inning on a Chelsea Dunn ground out, and Quaife scored on a Nicki Feuerbach single. The Red Hawks then added two more runs in the third. Dunn's sacrifice fly scored Brown, and Quaife scored on a Corinne Alexander double to make it 5-0 Red Hawks. The Red Hawks completed their scoring in the sixth inning when Alexis Angier doubled to score Jodie Richards and Jillian Goulart. The Red Hawks held onto that 7-0 lead for the victory. Rodriguez earned the win for the Red Hawks, allowing no runs and just three hits in five innings of work. She also struck out five batters. Cobb got the loss, allowing three runs on three hits in one inning of work. Amanda Crocker had a strong relief performance, going two innings and not giving up a hit. She struck out two batters. Quaife went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI; Alexander went 2-for-2 with an RBI; Angier went 1-for-1 with two RBI; and Dunn also added 2 RBI in the win for the Red Hawks.
The Red Hawks improve their record to 18-21 and 5-2 in the Cal Pac. They will finish the series with the Oaks on Tuesday, April 9, with a doubleheader starting at noon.
