MEDFORD, Ore. - The Simpson University women's softball team was in action for the second day of the Southern Oregon University tournament on Friday, Feb. 24. They went 1-1 on the day. They won 6-5 over Concordia University-Portland and then lost game two 9-0 to OIT.
The Red Hawks showed some good fight in the first game coming from behind to take the victory. Concordia jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the Red Hawks added three in the third inning, two in the fifth inning and the game-wining run in the top of the seventh. Nicki Feuerbach had the go ahead RBI double to seal the victory for the Red Hawks. Hayley Rodriguez earned the win for the Red Hawks, pitching seven innings and allowing five runs. Brooke Quaife had a strong game, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and scoring twice.
In the second game, it was all Owls. They scored early and often with the Red Hawks never really in the game. Red Hawk starter Trinity Cuff was given a loss going 3.2 innings. She allowed seven runs on nine hits. Red Hawk freshman Ryan Norton accounted for half of the Red Hawks' six hits by going 3-for-3 in the game.
The Red Hawks' record is now 7-7. They will finish their participation in the tournament on Saturday, Feb. 25, when they take on Southern Oregon at 11 a.m. and then Concordia University-Portland again at 1 p.m.
