Lady Red Hawks split double-header with San Marcos

Simpson University women's softball team hosted the Cougars in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The teams split the games with game one going to the Red Hawks 7-2 before the Cougars took game two 6-2. It was senior day for the Red Hawks as they honored the seven seniors that would be competing in their final home game. Corinne Alexander, Amanda Crocker, Trinity Cuff, Nicki Feuerbach, Paige Gomez, Valerie Rodriguez and Brooke Quaife were all honored as a part of senior day festivities.
In game one Amanda Crocker took the ball starting for the Red Hawks against Cougar starter Courtney Allen. It was a close game with the first runs coming from the Cougars in the 4th when they hit back-to-back home runs to take a 2-0 lead. The Red Hawks would score 5 times in the bottom of the 5th when the Cougar shortstop dropped the would be third out to allow two runs to score and Feuerbach would take advantage of the inning being extended when she hit a 3-run home run to make it 5-2 Red Hawks. They would add two more in the 6th when Alexander homer and Nicole Hutchins' RBI single scored Valerie Rodriguez. The Red Hawks would not relinquish another run in the game and were 7-2 winners. Crocker earns the win for the Red Hawks allowing just 2 runs on 3 hits in 6 innings of work with Morgan Davis earning the save as she pitch 1 inning of perfect baseball in relief. Allen is the loser for the Cougars allowing 5 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits in 5 innings. Feuerbach was 1-3 with 3 RBI and a HR with Alexander going 2-2 with a HR.
In game two the Red Hawks sent Trinity Cuff to start against Kim Smith who started for the Cougars. Again it was Cal State San Marcos taking a 2-0 lead this time in the 3rd innings. The Red Hawks would answer with one in the 3rd when Ryan Norton scored on Jillian Goulart's ground out. The Cougars scored 2 more in the 4th inning with the Red Hawks again answering with one when Julissa Castellanos scored on Bryanna Esquivel sac bunt to make it 4-2 Cougars after 4 innings. The Cougars would extend their lead in the 6th with two more making it 6-2 and the Red Hawks wouldn't have enough to come back and fall 6-2. Cuff is hit with the loss going 7 innings allowing 6 runs on 14 hits. Smith is the winner allowing just 1 run on 3 hits. Quaife and Norton were both 2-3 in the game.
