Simpson sweeps doubleheader home opener against UBC

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University women's softball team started their season off in style by taking two games from the Thunderbirds from University of British Columbia on Thursday, Feb. 9. In game one, Red Hawks won 4-1; they won 9-7 in game two.
In the first game, junior Hayley Rodriguez dominated the game by pitching a complete game. She allowed four and one run and struck out five. The Red Hawk offense was provided by Aleisha Brown, who went 2-for-4 with a RBI. She also scored two runs. Valerie Rodriquez went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run, while Morgan Davis went 2-for-3 from the plate with an RBI and a walk.
In the second game, it took a six run fifth inning to put the Red Hawks over the top in a comeback victory. Trinity Cuff was the winning pitcher, throwing four innings in relief. Brooke Quaife was the offensive leader in the second game. She went 2-for-4 with two RBI and scored a run. Nicki Feuerbach also had a good game, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and scoring a run. Davis earned the save.
The Red Hawks will be in action tomorrow as they will host a tournament. Simpson will play seven times in two days. The Red Hawks start tournament play against Eastern Oregon University at 9 a.m. at Big League Dreams in Redding.
